Singularity
Those who deny the Singularity lack vision. A "No" vote is actually a vote against the concept, not the reality of it. It's going to happen whether you agree with it or not. Just because you don't want it to happen doesn't mean it's not. As more & more people are turned on by the idea of, well, turning on, the naysayers will eventually try it, if for no other reason than curiosity, & most of those will not want to go back to "the old days". Eventually society will not be able to conceive of a time when this was not so. It may not happen in my lifetime, but it's coming.
AI Sentience? Yep. AI intentions? Who knows.
Back in June, there was a great panel discussion at the World Science Festival on this topic. In addition to a couple of the actors from Battlestar, there were three scientists who could agree on just two issues: 1) AI will achieve sentience in the near future, and 2) its intentions at that point can't be predicted. Here's a link to some of the coverage...be sure to check out the video showing an AI-enabled robot learning what its shape is as it flails its limbs about. Cute, scary and definitely a glimpse of the future.

Man-Machine Singularity is coming first!
I think that this "machine" singularity has been given too much attention, when organizations that co-ordinate the efforts of people, machines and computer behaves as a sentient, autonomous, self perpetuating, fault tolerant organism.
There should be more investigation sentient behavior of organization, because I believe the man-machine singularity will occur long before the "machine" singularity.
